The untimely death of a 35-year-old Bank of America associate has sparked a conversation across Wall Street over working conditions. "And to at least just start having those conversations as to how they can make junior bankers work life much better because it's been long overdue. At BofA, 100-plus hour weeks logged by junior bankers aren't unusual, said current and former employees, who questioned whether the firm's system for flagging excessive amounts of work was actually effective. But some junior bankers felt dismayed by an apparent lack of written communication from bank leaders about the incident, this person added. Crushing exhaustion, heightened demandsThe former BofA investment-banking analyst, who was not on Lukenas' team, quit in 2023 after two years.

Artificial intelligence is on everyone's lips, and that's expected to translate into big bucks for Goldman Sachs, according to CEO David Solomon. He said the bank has been "advising clients on these topics and how to think about potential use cases in their operations." AI's impact on jobsSolomon also explained how, internally, AI could impact its own workforce. "We see enormous opportunities for productivity gains and also opportunities for efficiency," Solomon said, describing how the AI revolution could impact Goldman's human capital. Some firms like Deutsche Bank have been piloting test cases to evaluate the impact AI could have on junior bankers' workflows.

Apple added that the lawsuit could empower the government “to take a heavy hand in designing people’s technology.”But if successful, the lawsuit could ripple across Apple’s products and services. Anna Moneymaker/Getty ImagesChanges to the App StoreIf found liable, the company could be forced to change a number of things. One such change is how iPhone users could get greater access to “super apps” that have been largely restricted before. More open servicesAnother likely change is how hardware from other companies, such as smartwatches, will interact with the Apple range of devices and software, including the iPhone and Apple’s services like Fitness+. But Apple’s success stems in part to its tight grip on its products and services, keeping things intuitive and seamless.

Klaviyo, the marketing tech company that went public on the New York Stock Exchange last September, has an internal motto that's meant to motivate its employees and make them less afraid of failure: "We're 1% done." CEO Andrew Bialecki compared the idea to the progress bar that might appear on your screen when you're downloading a software update. Bialecki says Klaviyo can directly demonstrate the impact of its tech using a metric the company calls "Klaviyo Attributed Value." The company said it generated more than $50 billion in Klaviyo Attributed Value in 2023. The company reported fourth-quarter earnings — their second as a public company — on February 27.

CNN —Boeing must produce within 90 days a plan to fix serious quality and safety issues, the Federal Aviation Administration said on Wednesday. The agency said FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker and Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun held a day-long meeting on Tuesday where Whitaker made the demand. The FAA said the Boeing plan must address weaknesses in implementing the company’s Safety Management System, known as SMS, as well as integrating the SMS program with another quality program. Anna Moneymaker/Getty Images North America/Getty ImagesThe panel that reported on Boeing’s safety shortcomings on Monday recommended the company address those issues within six months; the FAA’s new directive sets a faster timeline. The resulting plan from Boeing must lead to a “measurable, systemic shift in manufacturing quality control,” the FAA said.

CNN —The Federal Aviation Administration issued a report Monday sharply critical of the safety culture at Boeing, following two fatal crashes and several years of safety and quality issues at the troubled aircraft maker. Its work included conducting more than 250 interviews and reviewing more than 4,000 pages of documents, and focused on both safety culture and the FAA program that delegates some aircraft certification work to Boeing employees. The panel was not charged with reporting on any specific incident involving Boeing aircraft. “However on several occasions during the expert panel’s activities, serious quality issues with Boeing products became public. In particular, it found Boeing repeatedly revised its Safety Management System – or SMS – manual, which is suppose to guide employees on procedures they should follow to insure planes are safe.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said on Monday that a SIM swap attack was to blame for the breach of its official account on X (formerly Twitter) earlier this month. With access to the phone number, the unidentified individual then reset the account password. "While multi-factor authentication (MFA) had previously been enabled on the @SECGov X account, it was disabled by X Support, at the staff's request, in July 2023 due to issues accessing the account," the SEC said in the statement. Starting next year, it should be less frustrating for iPhone and Android users to text one another. Green message bubbles signal that they are coming from an Android or other non-iPhone user. But they have come to be associated with an unpleasant texting experience for iPhone users, whose messages are blue to indicate that they have been sent via iMessage. The green bubble is here to stay, however: It will signal when RCS is in use. The technology “will work alongside iMessage, which will continue to be the best and most secure messaging experience for Apple users,” Apple said in a statement.

He encouraged an audience member at the 2022 Code Conference to switch over to Apple when he asked about cross-platform texting. The change – first reported by tech site 9to5Mac – will add features, such as read receipt, typing indicators, better support for group chats and higher quality media sharing of images and videos, across platforms. Apple told CNN in a statement it will add support for the standard, called RCS (Rich Communication Services), later next year. Meanwhile, Google, which already has support for RCS within its messaging app, has been vocal about wanting Apple to adopt the standard. The move, however, doesn’t necessarily mean the green bubbles (Android or other users) and blue bubbles (Apple users) that are displayed when messaging someone on the other platform will go away anytime soon. “Instead, RCS support will enable a smoother and better customer experience of iPhone users communicating across platforms.
